About

Terrapin Bay Fishing specializes in fly and light tackle fishing charters on the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. In the spring we will fish the catch and release season on the Susquehanna Flats at the headwaters of the Bay out of Havre de Grace. Later in the spring/early summer, we will launch out of Kent Island and concentrate on Eastern Bay and the Chester River. In the heat of late summer the fishing will turn to the mainstem of the Bay as menhaden, anchovies and rockfish head for deeper, cooler water. From September until the rockfish head south for the winter, we will concentrate on breaking fish as they fatten up for winter. Finally during December we will fish the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (CBBT) at the mouth of the Bay and take advantage of the amazing fishery that sets up as the migratory fish return from New England.

8 Hour Susquehanna Flats fly fishing trip
Sometimes, the stars just don't align for a fishing trip. The forecast for my fishing trip was high winds with a decent chop on the bay. Captain Sean called me beforehand to talk about what I wanted to do. He said we could try to go, but he was also honest that the fish just weren't biting. He was completely up front, and recommended we cancel, and told me he didn't want to take me out for a boat ride just to take my money. It's not too common to find such an ethical guide! I'm looking forward to booking another trip with Sean later in the summer, and hopefully the weather won't be against us next time!
