About

Florida Keys flats fishing is like no other experience in the world. Sight fishing is a combination of hunting and fishing in the shallow waters of the flats. We'll stalk fish in the gin clear waters of the Keys for our main quarry, bonefish, permit, and tarpon. However, there are other sporting species to be found, such as redfish, jacks, barracuda, and sharks.

Lower Keys fly fishing affords world-class fishing just minutes from the dock. Shallow Water Charters is located in Cudjoe Key at Mile Marker 21, but I charter Lower Keys fishing trips from Key West and the Marquesas to Big Pine Key and Marathon.

Newcomers, experienced anglers and all skill levels in between are welcome. I have fished the Lower Keys for many years, so I have the experience and patience to make your trip a success. Although I specialize in fly fishing, I am adept in spin fishing with light tackle and have all the necessary gear. As I navigate the shallow flats, you'll witness an abundance of wildlife below and above the water's surface. I look forward to taking you on a Lower Keys flats fishing adventure. Feel free to call or e-mail me for the fishing experience of a lifetime!

Maverick Flats Skiff
I fish a Maverick Mirage HPX. Quite simply, it's the Cadillac of flats fishing skiffs. It provides a dry and comfortable ride under power, and a very stable casting platform on the flats. This HPXV (the V stands for V hull) allows me to cross big water to get to where the fish are, like a run to the Marquesas out of Key West. For my Lower Keys flats fishing charter trips, this boat can get to spots that require going across deep water that lesser skiffs cannot. My Maverick performs unfailingly.

NEW! Custom built casting platform and attachable stripping basket. This boat can sneak into super skinny water with a minimum of noise. The Maverick's legendary design can stealthily sneak up on fish to put you in casting range of the tarpon, permit, or bonefish of your dreams. It's equipped with all the electronics and safety equipment needed for a safe and successful day on the water including all Coast Guard required equipment and GPS. It provides ample rod storage below deck for all of my rods and reels and yours, if you'd like to bring them. It will carry two adults, or I can take three passengers if one is a child or lighter weight passengers. It has plenty of dry storage space for your camera or anything that needs to be kept dry. I provide a cooler full of ice for your food and beverage needs so you don't need to worry about bringing a cooler.

I run on a Yamaha 115. It allows me to get to the flats quickly and reliably. From flats fishing in Key West and the Marquesas to Big Pine Key and Marathon, this boat performs in all conditions. I've fished many skiffs, but for stability, comfort, and power, nothing compares to a Maverick for the best flats fishing performance. Their logo sums it up nicely: "Maverick, Fish the Legend". I have recently added a custom-built casting platform. It puts the angler 18 inches above the deck for far greater visibility. The leaning post provides stability and comfort in rough conditions. The lean post also lessens the stress on the angler's legs to enable him to fish long days without tiring. For fly fishing, the casting platform has an attachable stripping basket. This enables fly anglers to fish in any condition without worrying about fly line tangles. It can be attached to either side of the platform to accommodate either right or left hand retrieve fly anglers.
